Dear Prospective Demonstrators & Teachers,
We will be doing everything possible to keep this a free event for everyone attending. But we also want this to
be a very “hands on” event. We are looking for people to teach classes or “take on” some ideas that will allow
the kids to complete a project suitable for entry in the county and state fairs. The idea is to repeat a short
class 2-3 times so participants can rotate through stations. We don’t want this to be a great expense for our teachers
either so we will have fibers and supplies available– just tell us what you need. Some ideas we had
Weaving- Yarn baskets using basket weaving boards available through orientaltrading.com item IN-57/6116 or bracelets
on cardboard looms available through www.dickblick.com/zz650/02/ we also have a 4 harness loom available, as well
as an inkle loom.
Spinning– we are hoping to make simple drop spindles as a project—so that they can be used to spin on. We will
provide washed/carded wool and handouts, but a teacher for this project would be wonderful!
Felting—Marna will be doing felting classes—probably a shaped object like a geode, easter egg, or ball and some
sort of flat formed object– right now thinking a small pouch or purse.
Livestock/fiber evaluation– rabbits and llamas and sheep OH my! Any sort of class that tells about the different
fiber animals and their fleece/wool/hair would be terrific. We would love a class on alternative meats like goat,
rabbit, and lamb.
Fiber preparation– we have hand cards, a drum carder, washtubs, a picker—how to prepare different fibers for spinning
, washing fleece, carding, skirting fleece, plucking, grooming animals.
Soap making- goats milk soap
Herbal lore
Basket making
Crochet or Knitting
Paper making
In short if you have a presentation you would like to do let us know! Also let us know if there is something you
are interested in learning and we’ll do our best to make sure the schedule allows you to attend the class you want
to as well! Also we don’t expect any of our volunteer teachers or demonstrators to have to pay for lunch– we make
a delicious campfire stew and will have tea, coffee and lemonade. This will be a mostly “outside” event– but we
will have backup places inside should the weather turn bad. We would love to welcome you to our historic farm and
museum, and look forward to working with you!
We welcome or demonstrators to pass out their own information and sell their goods! No charge to them!
